Sylphyo Link on phantom power?
-
What happens if the Sylphyo Link line outputs are connected to an interface input with phantom power - is this dangerous for the Link?
-
@Peter-Ostry Good question!
I was thinking it was not an issue since the Line outs are unbalanced ... but the 48v circuit is established between XLR pins 1 (which maps to the sleeve) and both pins 2 and 3 (tip and ring) ... so if you go to unbalanced (and drop the ring / pin 3) there will still be a voltage drop across the Tip and Sleeve ...

@Peter-Ostry a link output , so nothing gets in
i had a smile.. new for you maybe, a proven technology for decades ...
no need to concern

What is the exact characteristic for an electrical exit, possibly a "no entry" sign? Then my power is not only a phantom, it also can not read. That was certainly the reason why it grilled my old ribbon mic and later burned the output stage of a preamp. I'm for more education: Phantom powers must be able to read! -
Some interesting articles related to this issue / question ... looks like it is a real issue!

@Clint
Yes, of course. Input or output is not the question. It's simply 48 volts of DC hitting some components. If they are not adequately protected, it goes "ssshh..." and the gig is over. -
sorry for late response
the problem id rather simple. if a device needs phantom power
you switch it on.just like one does not try if an american device will work on 230 V
and it is the operator who should read. phantom powers ?
i have had more than 50 years concert experience, and never had a problem..
and i did lots of concerts , festivals. weekends with 9 sets a day.regards

@frank
Then you are a lucky man. But there are also sound engineers who route suspect signals through DI boxes on principle.I have now put the Sylphyo Link and also two synths behind a multiport DI box. The Link box is safe and as an additional benefit there is less noise overall.
You can't convince me with experience alone, since I'm almost 71 we could be about the same age :-)

hmm i do not call it luck, but rather a professional way of working. know you equipmen and use the right tools. and there no issues. define on the rider what information one needs about the equipment to be used, and takes care the the proper cabling is tested available.
than there are so many who do not have a clue. those you help.
with a pair of scissors, and repair equipment. i remember hearing at a sound check that the keyboard player again has not bought new cables. you help him by cutting them to pieces, ans supplying an alternative. the music has to go on.phanton power has not been an issue , people who do not know to connect are.
for my own setup i use simple and cheap cabling. i go straight in a adconverter which has avb/tsn . instrument cable (hi-z ) go into instrument inputs, the rest is balanced. https://motu.com/products/avb/ultralite-avb is a good example. i may sound expensive, but it has all the basics. mixer fx etc. no deed for di boxes, and cheap connection to the digital world.
8 in and out. means on monitor mix, but also any input can go via the anima phi. and on the network.
and one can control from anywhere. and record of course.frank

Hello Frank,
thank you for your comments, but the discussion no longer has anything to do with this forum or this thread and I don't want to continue it here. I am writing this because it would be impolite not to reply after your effort. -
