Ah, you have the labeling on the plugs. Yes, then the shrink tubing can be used without removing the plugs :-)

I have a cheap Brother labeling machine (P-Touch D210, up to 12 mm). The normal tapes come off plugs and cables. I tried a flexi-tape, which has held up so far. But shrink-wrap is certainly better.

Taking a closer look at SuperBooth and ... well ... it looks pretty daunting. I'm from the U.S. and it's an 8 hour red-eye each way. Tickets are shown as "Unavailable" on their site (and also no workshop postings).

Then ... accommodations are far away: 50 minute train ride + 10 min walk + 20 minute walk. That's a total of 3 hours of commuting each day.
Then there's the restrictions: can't bring gear (really??), can't buy anything, and "better bring cash".

And now ... No Aodyo ...

Not sure if I'm missing something ...

Hello for my part I slide a small roll of paper towel like handkerchief or paper towel inside the tip and it does the job very well and almost free ;) it changes absolutely nothing to the breath or the dynamics of Sylphyo

I would like to thank everyone for their trust in Aodyo.

@Paul-Flute, I am sorry that you had to pay for customs to release your package.
We work with DHL for returns and have done so for a long time.
When we send back material after repair, it is specified so that the recipient does not have to pay anything.
Unfortunately, if the customs authorities still decide to charge a fee, and we are not notified, we cannot intervene.
And even less can we decide for them.
We have already had to pay customs ourselves, even though we are the manufacturer.

As far as insurance is concerned, here again it is the carrier who sets the price. We advise you to opt for insurance because unfortunately there have already been cases of lost packages.

For all our shipments of instruments that we have sold or that we are sending back after repair, we take out insurance.

As for the repair time, it is important to know that as long as we do not have the instrument in our hands and in a position to identify a problem, if it is not systematic, it is difficult to decide on the solution to be applied.
Hence the importance of the descriptions made.

Finally, there is always a shortage of electronic components and we are the first victims because this generates delays in production and repair.
However, we do our best to repair and return the product as quickly as possible.

My Sylphyo does not send anything when switched on. Not a single event. Not via the link, nor directly via USB. The first messages I see are Elevation CCs when I take the instrument out of the vertical power on position.

Been playing with Reaction Time and Reaction Time Octaves and I'm getting the feeling that Reaction Time Octaves only comes in to play when I move from one thumb pad to another. My issue seems to occur mostly when I lift my thumb (and simultaneously change fingering on the front side).

In the fingering I'm using, lifting the thumb goes up an octave ... but this seems to use the Reaction Time delay and not the Reaction Time Octaves delay. Is that correct??

One solution is to introduce a very slight articulation to interrupt the airflow. I've started doing this subconsciously and this reduces artifacts (pops and beeps) substantially.

@Clint Thanks for all the very detailed analyses you made. As soon as I get a sizeable chunk of free time, I intend to carefully read them all from the beginning and contribute tests that can help us understand what's going on and get to the bottom of this.

@steviek Nobody else of Aodyo can comment on this particular issue, unfortunately, but we're reading everything posted. It's just that I can only do one thing at a time, and such a question deserves proper treatment and will take time to answer. Sorry that we've not been very good for giving a sense of where we are and where we are heading to. I hope we'll be able to communicate a bit more often from this point on.

No we wouldn't be at the Musikmesse Frankfurt 2022.

The last edition of the Musikmesse we took part were quite disappointing and we decided to get to the SuperBooth in Berlin in September 2021 instead.

Such shows are still complicated in the current pandemic context.

If a note Off is delayed, then there is a moment that two notes are ON. This might cause a mini legato / glide in Respiro.

If the Respiro note transition is set to Synth mode then you will have less pops versus when you use the Real mode.

I would need to dig into the Sylphyo to understand the way it deals with key glitches. But typically when using certain fingering transitions, glitches can occurs due to the changing keystroke (not all fingers in sync). I think this is why the Key / Reaction time parameter exist. Typically keystrokes less than 20ms are glitches. Therefore setting this value to 1ms will probably not filter glitches keystrokes and provide a more snappy response to your fingering BUT it demands that you master your fingering technique...Respiro is responding super fast to note changes and a glitch note during playing can result in a create a pop.

With other words, if you set the reaction time to 1ms, then I would advice Respiro in Synth Mode and increase the value till pops are gone...

Settings are provided below. Key settings I guess are:

Breath rate is Low / 125Hz because of the XpressO, which was choking (for a while, at least) on Medium and above.

Velocity = Dynamic because many of the VSTs I use depend on that. My VL70-m is fantastic, but I currently have a (very) hybrid rig (still in the expansion / exploration phase with my rig).

Key Feature would be a way to re-configure the Sylphyo via MIDI program changes. I could then switch settings when switching sound rendering modules or VSTs. Without that, I am really stuck with the "least common denominator" across all my sound rendering tools.

I am not sure what your term "key debounce time" is ... is it Keys / Reaction time?

I will use 15 - Cheap Tunes in the future for testing ... (that sounds the most immediate to me of the choices you suggested).

I never considered that the sound triggering mechanism might be other than MIDI. But, of course, analog synths use CV and that's a whole 'nother world ... would love to understand how this actually works on the Sylphyo!

I played the first five tracks live over a sparse nature soundscape. I played the last three tracks live, supported by the recorded music of my mentor, David Darling, pianist Alexander Nakarada, and the drone sounds of a particular species of “drumming fish”.

Virtual versions of real-world instruments include Native American flutes, clarinet, oboe, cello, mandolin, tubular bells, chimes, Armenian duduk, bansuri, and silver flute. I also played virtual-only instruments: Heaven Bells, Respiro (Desert Wind), EVI-NER, Marble, and Matt Traum’s IndiaFlute and Beauty.

Not quite a rig schematic, but a rigging schematic, somehow :-)

This is the first part of my Sylphyo interface to play with software instruments.

Originally I wanted it in Logic or Mainstage or another DAW I own, but the basically simple task went more complicated than I had expected. So I decided to make my own Sylphyo DAW in Max and enjoy the graphical possibilities.

Screenshot overview:

Top left, Sylphyo MIDI comes in through moving faders and is routed by a 12x12 matrix. Horizontal top is incoming, vertical right matrix border is outgoing. Each matrix output can be scaled, slowed down (Glide) and can have a curve applied. The right side of the screenshot is the graphical live display and shows all used Sylphyo messages after processing. Breath is the filled circle, blue background is Elevation, the two lines are Roll and Compass.

The screenshot tells that the Sylphyo is blown with medium force (thin outer circle is maximum). The instrument is held down and slightly rolled to the left with a bit of left Compass. The played note is a G4 with velocity 115. All other values are also shown in several colored faders.

Have not played much yet, but it seems to work well. Not many refinements needed, just a little technical elegance is missing (you have to look at the backside of the screenshot to see that).

Next part to do are connections and mappings to a handful of virtual instruments.

@paul-flute Yes you can have a lot of Sylphyo and Links in the same room, as each connection uses a separate channel.

This issue seems to be fixed in the latest RC13.7 release (dated 7/18/2021). (I was actually using an earlier RC13.7 version dated 7/11/2021 when I had these issues).

I can now increase the Breath Rate on the Sylphyo all the way up to Max with no apparent problems.

@clint This is awesome, you've just given me an idea. I'm going to run down to Home Depot and get a piece of black ABS pipe with caps and create a small case while using some grey foam to go around the Sylphyo. It's one of those instruments you just want to take to the park or out into the woods. This way it will be waterproof let alone can absorb shock if accidently dropped.

@peter-ostry Thanks for the clarification ... I had made some unfounded assumption as to how it was designed to work.

My main performance DAW is Cantabile, which has a massive set of MIDI filtering, mapping, and munging tools - I can massage pretty much any MIDI stream into what I want (Sysex excepted).

Thanks Maxence ... yes, I've got that ... but the "3" in "C3" could mean (as I've found out recently) many different things depending on the octave numbering you use. The Sylphyo (from my examining the MIDI stream it puts out) puts out MIDI hex 3C = decimal 60 for "C3" which is Middle C. That's the same standard that Kontakt, Apple Logic, Cubase, Steinberg, and Yamaha keyboards use.

However, the ISO standard that is used by Korg, Roland, and most of the piano tuning and composing world (and also the Native flute world) use "C4" for Middle C. That's why I was always off by an octave before I understood these issues.

Cakewalk Sonar actually uses C5 for Middle C, which is really confusing!

@armando-bersani My font package is a "work in progress" ... a nice way of saying it is incomplete. The clarinet fingerings (and most other instruments) have yet to be implemented. An initial version of sax fingerings is in the v1.008 release.

The idea of the font package is to allow you to easily type finger diagrams in documents, web pages, etc. Some people do use a text-based approach ... such as <xxxx|xooo ... where the "<" indicates the mouthpiece and the "|" indicates the split between the upper and lower hand. However, a vector-based font such as TrueType or OpenType is much more appealing.

The initial v1.008 of the Sylphyo fonts was a trial put out for testing and comments. And I have had many good comments, some of which suggest a re-design of the entire font package.

In particular, there was a suggestion to use the advanced features of OpenType to actually allow someone to type <xxxx|xooo ... and have the font itself provide a substitution which would allow applications (those that implement those advanced OpenType features) automatically change that <xxxx|xooo into a single finger diagram from the font. As it stands now, you have to locate the correct Unicode code point and enter it by hand, which is lot of work.

Another issue (for me) is how the Sylphyo fonts would be integrated with my existing font packages (see www.Kurinto.com and the Native Flute fonts at www.Flutopedia.com/fonts.htm).

There have been many other worthwhile suggestions (some of them above), the bulk of which expand the scope of this project (for me) significantly. I honestly have not had the impetus to undertake this larger project as we have been on the road for an extended trip (across Southern Europe - with the Sylphyo and a full recording rig - all worked beautifully!).

If people in this community are eager for this font project to move forward ... please make a note in this thread and it might provide encouragement for me to move forward with this project ...
