Battery charge time
-
Hi, I have been trying out a Sylphyo for two weeks. it's a B-stock, and according to the battery indicator was fully charged on arrival. Two times it ran out of power completely, and it took about 24 hours of charging for the Sylphyo to regain life. I tried using different cables and chargers. Any advice for things to try?
Best regards, Christian

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your message. The Sylphyo runs out of power completely if you leave it powered on for too long, past the point where the screen shows a message that you need to charge your instrument.
This leads to a deep discharge state in which the instrument needs to be charged very slowly over a period of up to 48 hours in order to work again. This is done to preserve the battery as charging it too quickly from a deep discharge state could cause it damage.
My advice to you is to not leave your Sylphyo on for prolonged periods and to charge it once you are done using it. The battery should last around 6 hours, and unless you leave it on to go into deep discharge, should only take a few hours to charge.
Let me know if I can be of more help!

Aaah, that clarifies things, thank you! I wish this info was in the manual and in the FAQ. I only used the Sylphyo for short periods of time. The instrument worked normally until I switched it off. Then the next time it wouldn't power up. I have never seen the message that you need to charge. Someone mentioned an auto shut-off when charge gets too low. That would be an elegant solution.

@Chris That sounds quite strange! If you power it off after using it it should not go into the deep discharge state unless left at a very low battery level and/or not used for several days or weeks.
Let me know once you've charged it for a day or two if it keeps going back into the deep discharge state without being powered on in which case you may need to return it for an exchange.
We will definitely consider this solution :)

Thank you for your reply Maxence. Is the battery indicator supposed to ever reach the top? 4177 mV is the max value in Diagnostics after over 48 hours of charging.

Hi Chris around 4200mV is the top so your battery should be full.

Once more, the Sylphyo got into a state of discharge. I regularly connected it to a computer yesterday and only left it switched on without USB connection for under 10 minutes today. The battery indicator showed about 3/4 full, no warning. I think I have to give up on this unit.

@Chris I think in this case as agreed over e-mail, it is best to send this unit back to Bax for a return.
For information this was a B-stock Sylphyo that clearly had issues before Chris got it.
Sorry for the disappointment Chris and let me know if there is anything I can help with.
