How about a Sylphyo update now?
-
Well, congratulations to your Anyma Phi 1.0 update. Really!
But now, finally got enough time and energy at your place to work on the long-desired Sylphyo update? ;-) -
Hey great idea, I wonder why we didn't think of that! Thanks for the support anyway :).
If the Anyma is any indication, it takes some time to make updates. We know Sylphyo users have been waiting for a long time, but let's get real: since last time we've been testing a few new experimental things, we don't have enough new and tested material to release update ready just yet.
Are there specific things you're waiting for? -
@join How about the ability to send data on multiple midi channels?
-
The last update was nearly 11 months before. I asked for one some months ago (nearly 5 months). Aodyo support said they were working on it. So What? I am looking for good internal sounds. I wonder if the update will last one year. I am not really satisfied. Greetings Friedus

Bug/Check:
-
Dynamic velocity works with legato playing but not with single notes.
-
Key reaction time 0 requires octave reaction time 0 (should be independent).
-
When we tilt the Sylphy down, "Compass" output goes haywire. There should be a fixed "Elevation" limit that switches the "Compass" output off when the Sylphyo is too low (please implement hysteresis for that).
Feature requests (with dependencies):
-
MIDI Thru for the Link if it is doable via software.
-
Possibility to block Program Change output.
-
Add Pitchbend to output messages.
-
Consolidate all MIDI control parameters/menus. Every menu should have None, Aftertouch, Pitchbend and CC numbers.
-
Individual range options (0-127 scaled down, could be percentage) for Pitchbend, Aftertouch and (all) CCs.
-
Individually selectable MIDI channels for Notes, Pitchbend, Aftertouch and (all) CCs.
Receiving/sending MIDI settings (with an editor or without) via SysEx/NRPN/CC requires a separate discussion.

Thanks for your feedback.
@Paul-Flute @Friedus Any details on your requests are appreciated. -
@join I've been working with the Sylphyo almost exclusively for the last 3 months, and for me the stand-out feature I would love to see improved is Key Bend.
The issues are discussed in this post.
The primary items (for me) are:
-
The range of the bending should happen according to the actual fingering setup. If opening a hole would raise pitch a semitone, the Key Bend range should be a semitone, If opening a hole would raise pitch a whole tone or a minor third, then the Key Bend should be a whole tone or a minor third.
-
Key Bending needs to work with cross-fingerings. For example, Key Bend from <xxx|ooo to <xox|ooo currently does nothing.
-
There should be a finger velocity sensitivity adjustment to filter out unwanted bending while normal playing.
Thanks for anything you could do in these areas!

@join Perhaps Aodyo might help the folks creating the Photon mouthpiece project?
Could the Sylphyo's firmware be amended so that the the Photon could be connected into the Sylphyo's mini-USB socket?
Maybe the Photon's MIDI data stream could be merged into the Sylphyo's MIDI wireless data stream flowing over to the Sylphyo Link box?
USB power out of the Sylphyo's mini-USB to power the Photon would be good too?
Here's a YouTube video of an early prototype Photon mouthpiece being used with a Sylphyo. The sound is coming from the Respiro software synth.

Hi Gromit,
This photon - sylphyo couple has already been mentioned here. Photon is superb as well as the sylphyo too. And be able to play with the two devices without a stress of USB liner (all passing in radio signal) it would be the dream ... it seems that the two starts up do not wish to work together and at the technical level I know that the photon transmits enormously from data ... to them to tell us if he wishes Rudy and "join". In any case, I repeat, it would be the dream!

New Sylphyo player here...
I would love to see a desktop app that consolidates and allows us to change all configuration parameters in the Sylphyo. The tiny little LCD screen and the complex built-in menu system make it awkward and time-consuming to make many of the necessary tweaks and changes needed to make the most of the Sylphyo. We also need the ability to save a backup of all our personalized settings in the instrument.
It would also be great to allow us to pick sounds via the desktop app and not need to use the menu system on the Sylphyo instrument.
I would love to see higher quality "built-in" instrument sounds made available. Of the limited selection that come with the Sylpho few are what I would consider "ready for prime time" or sounds I would choose to use in performance. (SWAM and similar instruments are wonderful -- and extremely expensive, as are many other sampled or modeled instruments available as plug-ins.)
How about a series of step-by-step tutorials (with actual narration, not just overly loud music) on how to setup and use the Sylphyo with Kontakt Instruments, Vital Synth, Dune3 and other desktop software synths and plug-ins.

Another feature request:
Adjustable tuning base.
We are curently bound to 440 Hz, at least I don't see a way to change that. This can cause problems when a Sylphyo plays with acoustic instruments. -
@join
1- I'd like to see an improvement on the key bend too.
2- I use the Sylphyo with just a speaker for musical awakening. So I use the built-in sounds and I would be happy to have new ones.
3- I'd like to change the diapason too, for more flexibility when I play with acoustic instruments.
3- I play arab music and micro-tonality would be good.
4- I was revived twice about the chalumeau fingering : could you tell me if I will be able to test what I wrote for you on a beta version?
Thanks -

ThanksEdit
On number 4- I'm not precise enough : I'd like an acoustic mico-tonality with special fingerings to reach a half b or an half # like on a recorder for example. But a "button" in the menu to transform all Eb fingerings in E half b for example, would be great too, the same way like on a keyboard.
I forgot a number 6- A place in the menu to save different personalized settings. -
Interactive mouthpiece...
My best wishes.
And yes, I have readed all the posts... but... an interactive mouthpiece !!
At least as an Ewi mouthpiece.
And for the best, a Photon one !!! -
Ok. Yesterday was the 1st anniversary of the last update for the Sylphyo. I still feel a bit upset.
-
After an "interactive mouth piece", an other wish : export sound from AnymaPhi and import in Sylphyo...!!!!
