Problems while playing the Sylpyo
-
I have some troubles with my Sylphyo (software version 1.4.8):
- it sometimes suddenly stops producing sounds while playing
- it sometimes gets in a state producing wrong tones
- it does not respond to my breath pressure so the sound volume is always the same
Does anyone recognize this behavior?

Hello @meo - Could you tell us about your setup?
In particular ...
-
Are you using the internal sounds of the Sylphyo?
-
Are you using the Link radio receiver?
-
Are you using MIDI over the USB link to trigger sounds on some other device, such as a hardware sound module or a computer-based software virtual instrument?

Hi Clint,
Thanks for responding. I am really new to wind instruments. I only use the Sylphyo as it comes out of the box. I sometimes use a headphone, sometimes the Link connected to an active loudspeaker. So I think I use the internal sounds, isn't it? The behavior is the same in both cases.
I know nothing about, nor use MIDI.
Mostly, I have set the sound on Flute Phi (30). Today, I discovered that when I set it on MacGuffin (1), the respond to breath pressure is a bit better, dough not spectacular.
My other points occur less frequent now. I have the impression that they come from my inexperience handling the Sylphyo. Is that possible? I am used to handling an acoustic sax which is less sensitive. -
@meo Have you tried going into the menu and changing BREATH min and max? Try Setting the min to 30, and the max to the maximum possible... What do you mean by "wrong tones"? - it goes out of tune, or it generates non stop noise, unrelated to what you do with your fingers on the keys? Please record this when it happens, so we can get an idea of what is happening...///... I highly recommend learning about midi, and using the sylphyo connected to a computer sequencing program or sound generating program like Respiro. You are only using half of what is possible with the Sylphyo. I am sure you can find people here who would help you over a video call ... I am available.

@paul-flute
I adjusted the the breath minimum and range settings indeed. No differences. In fact I didn't notice any changes in behavior at all. I could not find a max breath setting. Did you mean range?
There is no noise. The tones are good, but when it is in that state, pressing a key results in a tone that doesn't match that key. Recording is difficult because it happens only one and a while.
Thanks for the suggestion for further help, but I am not so into computerised music and recording. I just play in a brass band and I cannot showup there with a computer or synthesizer. Bringing the Sylphyo and speaker already was an issue.
I think I will bring the Sylphyo back to the seller. -
@meo Yes I meant range. Set it to 3000 (max). Set the minimum to 30. in MIDI mapping set BC to CC2 and Velocity to Dynamic. If still no change, try RESET (last menu item) and repeat.... Also have you checked the fingering chart for the instrument you have chosen. (under KEYS/Fingering). Good luck.... It seems a pity to give up so quickly...
