Leydig cells in the embryo are in charge of changing gonads into testicles. But in the case of testicular agenesis, these cells are unsuccessful. Only the testes are responsible for producing 5-alpha dihydrotestosterone (5aDHT). No 5-DHT is produced when the gonads do not develop into testicles. Males who experience this develop penile and testicular agenesis. Therefore, testicular penile agenesis may result in penile agenesis.
