I looked inside my Sylphyo "B" (not the one I returned for service) as I was about to swab it out and saw some dangling strands. With a flashlight, it appears to be caulking on the junction between two tubes. The calking is oozing out of one side and seems separated on the other and is dangling out as two strands of caulk.

Please advise what I should do ... nothing? Reach in with scissors and try to cut off the strand? Reach in with needle-nose pliers and pull off the strand? Anything else?

And is this possibly an indication of the failure of a water-tight seal between two internal tube sections??

Thanks for any suggestions / assistance ...

@Clint I've looked down my Sylphyo and see something almost exactly the same as what you label as "Addition caulking oozing out of the junction". But no dangling strand.

(And how did you take that photo? I couldn't contort the light and camera enough to replicate :)

It was comically tricky ... flashlight in one hand, point-and-shoot camera in the other, Sylphyo between my knees. I even had one of those Optivisor magnifying head-strap things on my head ...

@Clint I'm thinking of taking the Sylphyo to my proctologist - he would have the right equipment! :)

And I think we need the wind instrument equivalent of the iFixit guys to tear one of these things down and show us what's inside.

The main Sylphyo screen on the website does have this bit of information:

Would that profession be a Proctoewilologist?

Either leave this strand as it is or cut it off.
                Do not pull it!

What you see is some glue that connects a middle soft plastic tube to the two hard plastic tubes at the top and bottom of the Sylphyo. If you pull on your glue strand, you may produce a hole and that may disturb the air flow.

In addition to the screws, the Sylphyo is held together with hot glue in a few places. At my instrument, this glue lost it’s strength and I could safely disassemble the instrument without knowing details. See the photo below, in the places marked with arrows are the glue areas of the tube:

                WARNING:
Do not disassemble the Sylphyo unless you have experience with such things. You could damage the board, a ribbon cable or connector or whatever.

(Btw, my Sylphyo contains a standard rechargeable 18650 battery in a socket, additionally held in place with two cable ties. An electronics technician can replace the battery.)

As @Peter-Ostry advise, I would advice you not to try anything @Clint.
Openning a Sylphyo without breaking it is not that easy (especially regarding the power on/off switch). Regarding the battery, this is indeed a standard 18650 protected battery for easier maintenance.
