My Roland Aerophone AE-10 has a USB-B port, which the documentation says you use "to connect this port to your computer. It can be used to transfer USB MIDI data." You can set the transmit channel, but it receives on all MIDI channels.

I connect the Aerophone's USB-B to my Sylphyo Link's MIDI host port, but when I play the Sylphyo, the Aerophone doesn't respond. Am I misunderstanding something?

@blipson Here's my diagram of how things should work ...

... so it does look like the Signal ("S") from the Sylphyo should be going out the USB Host port to the Aerophone ...

OK, thanks for verifying that, theoretically, I'm set up correctly. I'll start checking on things from the Aerophone's side to verify if it can be controlled from other sources.

            Just my 2 Cents:

USB Host connectors did never work for me. Not the Kenton host box nor at a digital mixer I had and not the Sylphyo Link. I do not know why, maybe my personal Karma or the temperature in Austria. And I never found out if the problem was at the host or at the connected device.

The first USB host that works flawlessly here is the BomeBox. I have an active USB hub on the host port of a BomeBox with all my MIDI gear connected including a Sylphyo Link and no problems at all.

I am writing this because, if you don't find a failure, don't blame yourself or your gear. It may just be your Karma or the air pressure in your bicycle tires or the colour of the wine on your table. The function of USB hosts seem to be a mysterious secret.

My Aerophone does show up as a USB target on my MIDI hub (mioXM), so maybe you're right about the host karma. Later, I'll try putting the Sylphyo Link's MIDI DIN on the MIDI hub, too, and see how well I can control the Aerophone that way. I'm concerned about latency with this config, though.

@blipson FWIW, I have a Kenton MIDI USB Host Mk II, which lets me control the Aerophone AE-10 from a MIDI keyboard - not something I've wanted to do, but I tried it a while ago and that worked. I used a Yamaha CBX-K1, which has DIN MIDI Out and no USB.
