I have just purchased and received a Sylphyo for a reduced price. (It's a B-stock article: the previous purchaser returned it, the packaging was damaged and there was no 5V adapter for charging it. I thought it would be a good deal.)

Earlier today, I played it for an hour or so, then it started malfunctioning. Some keys started playing the wrong pitches. I had to turn the instrument off and on again to reset it, after which it worked OK for a while. This happened a few times. Then the display suddenly went dark and the instrument no longer started up when I switched it on.

Obviously, I thought the battery was just discharged, but even after being plugged into my 5V smartphone charger or a USB port of my laptop for several hours, the Sylphyo would no longer start up when I switched it on. It seems to be dead. :-(

Also, while it was charging (or while I thought it was charging), there was no indication on the display that it was actually charging. Is this normal?

What do you think? Is it broken, or can I somehow bring it back to life?

I think I have to return it to the store for a refund, but maybe you know another option.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

When it is plugged in and charging (hopefully) Turn it on. If nothing happens, try another. The AC/DC supplied by Aodyo is 5v 2.5 Amp. The one you are using may only be 1 amp. You may have to order one from Aodyo. The battery display should have a lightning icon inside it to show it is charging. If unsure keep it on and unplug it and the lightning should revert to level indicator. You must charge for at least 8 hours, and if you have trouble after that you may need to do a 48 hour deep cycle charge uninterrupted. Good luck.

@robst247 Hello! This sounds like it could be related to a deep discharge problem. There is no indicator when charging so that is normal, but the other issues could be fixed by charging your Sylphyo for 48 hours (2 days). Make sure the charger brick is plugged into a wall outlet.

Let me know if this changes anything.

@paul-flute The charger I'm using is a Samsung Travel Adapter (standard smartphone charger) rated at 5.0V 2.0A. I did a 48-hour uninterrupted charge, which brought the Sylphyo back to life. :-)
Now, after less than 2 hours playing, the battery level indicator has changed to a lightning-flash symbol. Does this mean that I need to charge for 8 hours?
Also, a couple of times I have had the same problem that touching some keys didn't cause note/pitch changes. Does this normally occur when the battery is nearly empty?
Typically, how many hours can the Sylphyo be played before it needs recharging?

            Best regards,
            Rob

@robst247 I am not aware that the level indicator will change to lightening/charge indicator unless you plug it in to charge. Perhaps the lightening serves as charging indicator, and low battery indicator? Not many of the different icons and symbols/numbers are explained anywhere as far as I could find, which is a big omission... Have you tweaked many of the menu parameters? Perhaps do a factory reset and see if that solves the missing note problem. You can also put it into diagnostic mode, and check all the keys are responding to your fingers. Those indicators run along the bottom of the diagnostic screen.
Best not to drain the battery completely so keep an eye on the indicator. Mine goes around 5 hours before I recharge. Cheers

The lightning flash symbol means that the Sylphyo is connected to the mains and the battery is charging. You normally leave it for about 8 hours on charge (from nearly fully discharged), and you can play about 6 hours with a single charge. There are weird issues when the battery is depleted, as you experienced. As @Paul-Flute said, it's best to start over with fresh settings, so please do a factory reset.

@join My Sylpho's battery indicator is showing a lightning-flash symbol AT ALL TIMES, even when the charger is not connected!
I've done several factory resets, but now it's malfunctioning in another, new way: the octave keys are not working and I cannot even select menu items. Clearly, it's broken. :-(

@paul-flute Hi Paul - I have indeed tweaked quite a few menu parameters, but even though I do a factory reset, the Sylphyo keeps going into strange malfunction states where certain keys do not work. Today it was the octave keys. And I can't seem to charge the battery to the point where the indicator shows that its full. Maybe I just have a defective battery.
I certainly cannot play it for 5 hours without problems occurring. It's going back to the shop - I'm tired of it.

@robst247 ... and now there's another malfunction. It's happened twice so far. When I switch the Sylphyo on, instead of the normal display I get a thin white stripe at the bottom with the message:

                        TOUCH INIT

When I press the little recessed button with a pointed implement, the Sylphyo starts up normally.
But this shouldn't be happening. Right?

Can I send this Sylphyo to you for repair or replacement? The serial number is: AS01109

@robst247 The last straw. Now all the keys have stopped working!

I would give it back to the dealer because it does not work.

Nobody knows what the previous user has done to the instrument and if it ever worked, but I doubt that Aodyo accepts that as a warranty case. Cost of repair may overshoot the price difference to a new instrument.

The dealer is responsible, he sold a non-working product. I think you should reclaim your money.

@robst247 Hi Rob, that does sound like you need to send it back to the dealer. We won't be able to take it back directly as you bought it B-stock from them. Go back through them and they should refund you or send you back a working one.
