Anyma Phi Compatible Keyboards (esp. mini keyboards)
-
Hello Fellow Anyma Phi Community Members,
If possible I would like to gather a list of known keyboards that work with the Anyma Phi and even those which do not work.
-
Compatible: Chordmonger
-
Non-Compatible: AKAI Professional MPK Mini MK3.
I'm particularity interested in which mini-keyboards are compatible? I am hesitant in purchasing another mini keyboard unless I know it will work.
Thanks,
Milo -

Hello MiloDodds,I Am Using An " IK MULTIMEDEA iRig Keys 37",With Full Compatability. Also Have Tried The "Novation BassStation 2",Also,With Full Compatability.
-
Hello Again,MiloDodds,I Also Tried The " ARTURIA KEYSTEP",Again,With Full Functionality,And An Included Step Sequencer !!

@moogyloogy thank you for these details. I will take a look at these three keyboards. Those are some nice keyboards in comparison to what I was trying to use, the problem is that I like all three of them.
-
Among the USB-MIDI keyboards that we've tested that don't work with the Anyma Phi, there are also the Arturia Beatstep, Beatstep Pro, and Microfreak, as well as the Novation ZeRO SL MKII. We also have controllers that "almost work", meaning that they are recognized and can do the basic stuff but they have problems, like the KMI QuNexus.
We're currently working on improving USB host compatibility with those controllers, and possibly others, so don't hesitate to report any non-working MIDI controller, either here or at support@aodyo.com.

@join sensel morph does not work
-
@join thank you for these details and yes I will report the Akai Mini MK3 which doesn't seem to work at all and spent quite a few days in the Land of Frustration thinking that I had a bad Anyma Phi but it was a good learning experience in terms of learning patience and not jumping to conclusions. I feel really blessed to be part of this community and the people here are incredibly gifted and helpful. The only way to truly say thanks is to learn as much as I can and apply it to making truly beautiful and innovative new music.

@milododds My Yamaha CBX-K1 is fully compatible, because it has a standard 5 pin DIN MIDI Out.
It has the advantage that the mod wheel can be assigned to send other CCs instead, just using a button on the keyboard and its own keys for data entry, to say which. So, it can be used to send controls for A (MOD), B, C or D, or to send Breath.
They haven't been available new for some years, but they keep appearing on eBay, from time to time, so I guess quite a lot of them were made. They've lasted well.

@boriss @MiloDodds I'd really appreciate it if you could send pictures of the Diagnostics screen (Settings > Diagnostics at the bottom of the menu) at the "USB HOST" section, ideally the entire section, and report if there is a "RCVD" line that increases when you use the controller. This will help me increase the Anyma's compatibility with USB devices. Thanks.
-
@boriss Could you describe how your Morph is setup (are you using an overlay that's supposed to send MIDI?), and could you please try again with the "Slow Charge" setting enabled on the Morph side? Thanks.
-
@join
Both with and without the "slow charge" setting enabled the diagnostics show:
connected NO
rcvd# 0
sent# 0My arturia keystep connects immediately without problems. But Sensel seems not to be detected.
I use the Morph with the buchla overlay setup to send normal midi note numbers and CCs -
@boriss Thanks. I too have trouble with the Morph; it isn't recognized at all on a Mac with OS X 10.6 for instance. But there seems to be some way to get it to run, as this thread on the Sensel forum shows. When I can get to it I'll run some tests on it (however I don't have any overlay).

FWIW, my Yamaha PSS-A50 works fine, plugged into the USB host socket of the anyma phi.
I found it's best to plug it in before turning on the anyma phi, then turn on the PSS-A50 with its power button. It draws power from the USB host socket. I habitually leave a short audio extension lead plugged into the PSS-A50 audio out socket, to keep it quiet.
It's not likely to be a popular choice because it doesn't have a MOD or pitch bend wheel, but it does have pretty good mini sized keys, with velocity. The program select buttons change patches on the anyma phi too, though the number shown on the LED display of the PSS-A50 doesn't correspond to the PC it sends. It sends about 40 different ones, so it's still useful if you don't mind making a chart or trying to remember which is which.
Some of the PSS-A50 sounds might be worth feeding to Audio In on the anyma phi.

My experience is that it always works with 5-pin DIN MIDI In.
As for USB, it works with my Arturia MiniBrute2S in Anyma Phi USB host; it does not work with my Nord Piano 2 USB.Does anyone know if it works with an iPhone, using the MIDIKeys app (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/midikeys-midi-controller/id363609665)? For this you would apparently need a lightning to USB camera adapter (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD821AM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter). It would be nice to make a setup with your iPhone as touch screen keyboard.
-
@dive Robbie
I think that would work so I went to try it and realized I don't have a male-to-male cable with the right connectors on each end. Dang it! -
@jimhanks
Maybe a USB A to USB mini-B would do it, when you plug it into the Anyma Phi's USB device port. But you would indeed need a USB A to USB A cable to plug it into the host port.Good luck, I hope you can report something positive soon!
-
@diverobbie FYI, plugging my WARBL into the "device" port yielded nothing so I don't see how the iPhone would do anything either
-
@jimhanks Try plugging the warbl into the USB Host port instead.
-
@support_aodyo said in Anyma Phi Compatible Keyboards (esp. mini keyboards):
@jimhanks Try plugging the warbl into the USB Host port instead.
Haha! Yeah I know that! :-) That works fine. I was just trying the Device port to see if that also accepted note messages, etc. to test the previous poster's question. I feel pretty sure the "iPad to Lightning USB Camera Adapter to Anyma Phi Host port" idea will work but I didn't have the right USB cable for the last step.
-
@jimhanks Okay sorry for not understanding everything! Let us know how it works once you have the right cables :) The device port works if the messages are being sent from a computer actually, so plugging in your warbl into your computer and then the computer into the Anyma Phi's device port would allow you to send info from the warbl through the computer into the Anyma Phi provided you use some midi routing software or DAW.

My Yamaha Reface CS works too - plugged in with a USB cable to the USB host socket. That's a better choice than the PSS-A50 because it has a pitch bend lever, and 13 sliders/faders that send a continuous CC value, from 0-127... actually 14, if you don't mind using one with detentes (the Poly / Portamento selector isn't just a multi position switch - it can send values in between the positions).
Those can be assigned to control A, B, C & D (in the anyma phi settings menu), which is more convenient than turning the encoders.
The Reface CS can't take power from the anyma phi though - it needs an external DC supply, or a set of batteries.
I have the others in the Reface series, so if anyone wants me to check a particular one, let me know, but I assume they all work the same for USB-MIDI. The other logical choice would be the Reface CP, because it has 8 knobs that send continuous CCs, but no pitch bend, unfortunately.

does the Novation Launchkey Mini work?
-
More generally, is there a list of compatible mini keyboards anywhere on the Anyma site? I cannot find one.
On the assumption that the MPK isn't going to be able to be supported anytime soon, I would like to get an inexpensive one, but fear buying another brand that won't communicate with the synth – as there seem to be many that don't work at the moment.
