How to update Sylphyo and Link?
-
My Sylphyo and Link are version 1.4.8 from 2021. I downloaded the update sylphyo-windows-1.5.0.exe.
The page https://aodyo.com/sylphyo-updates-and-downloads/ says:
"The update package contains the update file to transfer to your Sylphyo, the current version of the manual, a readme.txt file with instructions, as well as the current version of the PC/Mac editor for your operating system."
But it doesn't contain the manual, a readme.txt file, or the editor.
I downloaded the manual from https://downloads.aodyo.com/sylphyo/. It doesn't include instructions for how to do the updates. I have previous update files and have updated the Sylphyo and Link before, but I forgot how.
Where are instructions for how to update the Sylphyo and Link?
Thanks,
David Savage

For Mac the download was just an update application, I guess it’s the same for Windows.
Here’s the procedure on Mac:
Remove USB from the Link box (if you have one), connect the Sylphyo to USB and turn it off.
Start the application, it tells you to connect USB.
Turn the Sylphyo on.
Update (you have to wait a while).
The app tells you to connect the Link.
Disconnect Sylphyo, connect the Link box.
Update (you have to wait a while).
Close the app, turn off Sylphyo and Link.
Re-arrange your cables as your setup needs them.I don't know about the readme.txt
I don't know about an editor either, maybe Aodyo copied the text from the AnymaPhi update for which there is an editor.

@Peter-Ostry Thanks! I successfully updated the Sylphyo. I couldn't find a USB-A to USB-A cable to connect the Link to my PC to update the Link. I will buy one at Microcenter to update it.

@MusicOne Use the same mini-USB to USB-A cable which you used to update your Sylphyo to update the Link too. Plug the mini-USB into the USB Power Supply socket on the Link and the USB-A into your computer. The USB-A socket on the Link is a USB Host socket.
Here's an extract from the Sylphyo User Guide - Link / Rear Panel connections (section 4.1.2)
"USB host port (USB A). Connect a USB-MIDI controller to play the LINK as a synthesizer, or use your Sylphyo to wirelessly control a synth that takes USB-MIDI input.
USB power supply port (USB Mini-B). Provides power to your LINK. Also allows you to use your Sylphyo as a wireless MIDI controller to control virtual instruments on your computer, smartphone or tablet.". -
@Gromit Thanks! I didn't remember connecting the Link with a USB-A to USB-A cable to the PC when I updated it last time years ago. Oh well, the cable was only $5. Maybe I'll find a use for it sometime.
I connected the Sylphyo cable from the Link's power supply port to the PC and successfully updated the link.
I found that in both cases--the Sylphyo and the Link--the device has to be connected to the PC and powered on first, before running the update program.
