Anyma Phi with EWI Controllers

Hi - I've been attempting to use the Anyma Phi with an Akai EWI USB. This works well when connecting via a PC (using Ableton). A few times I was able also to have the Akai EWI USB connect directly to the Anyma Phi using the USB Host Port connection. On other occasions though, that connection approach does not seem to power the Akai EWI USB. The Anyma Phi is connected to a powered USB hub via the USB Device Port and also powered by an AC adapter. Has anyone else had any luck plugging up the Anymi Phi with an EWI this way? What voltage do you recommend setting the power adapter to? The manual and the back of the Anyma Phi disagree on the current required.
