If you are asking about what's needed for playing the Sylphyo, you really don't anything but an amp or headphones. The onboard sound are fully functional and expressive. Much you can do with them. And more on the way.

You could use any number of apps on an iPad or computer, but you'll need to configure the parameters in most to work well with the various CC messages Sylphyo sends out. The onboard sounds just work.

One thing to consider is this: the more sounds/patches you have to choose from, the more time you'll spend choosing patches instead of playing. I can say this from experience and have personally chosen to simplify and concentrate on enjoying playing.

      Peace.

    • RE: Unable to use iPad with latest version

@k0872 I'm only familiar the current model. Works well for my uses. In my tests, the Link can be fully powered by portable battery backup. I currently use iOS exclusively for my synth apps and to play backing tracks. So have multiple CCKs handy.

But I don't play iOS synths with the Sylphyo. The internal sounds are extremely responsive and expressive. I use iOS synths for the remainder of the composition. I use the CCK to be able to send and receive multiple tracks from my Keith McMillan K-Mix mixer. It also can be fully powered by portable battery backup. :-)

The Puc device is pretty cool. But realistically you just traded one battery for another. Instead of providing the additional battery power the iPad needs to host external devices, you now have a battery powered Bluetooth MIDI device. Cool, I guess. But there are a lot of great iOS apps that do not support Bluetooth MIDI (yet at least).

Me again, I took the link per midi to my audiobox. Now when I play in my DAW (Studio ON) I hear both the internal sound and the sound of the DAW Instrument. Can I stop the internal sound?

Unplug the audio jacks on the back of the Link. If you have a mixer, you can turn down the audio on the Link channel(s).

    • Can't wait for new sounds! But take your time.

The seven internal sounds are really fun to play. They sound great and the various performance options are impressive. Great fun! Playing the instrument thru my Strymon Timeline and Big Sky can produce some really interesting possibilities.

I'm very pleased Aodyo chose the Physical Modeling approach to the internal sound synth. I've been a fan for years, especially of the great synths provided by AAS (Applied Acoustic Systems). Chromaphone was a game changer to the music I create. Obviously, Physical Modeling has a long history as a favorite among wind synth players, e.g.: Yamaha VL70-m.

One thing I will mention and I'm sure it's already been considered is that the editor app needs to be capable and the interface easy to use. AKAI's editor for the EWI4000s was/is horrendous and I'm sure they knew it, but never bothered updating. Roland's Aerophone app is more inline with what's needed going forward. Straight forward in its approach to editing its synth parameters, with a user interface to support it.

      Great work on the Sylphyo!

I dont want to carry addtional power supplies and cables.

Many/most iOS compatible devices that require power require external power of some sort due to the power requirements. Even if they could be powered from the iPad, for reliability reasons I would never entrust the iPhone/iPad alone to provide power for itself and external iOS music devices. That's simply not what they were designed to do. The battery in the iPad would drain much quicker.

Have you considered adding a small battery backup, like those for powering an iPhone? You can get them for $30-$60. They work well and the battery lasts hours. They are small and lightweight. I have one I purchased from the Apple Store that works well. It easily fits in a pocket and would provide much more reliable power when away from mains.

Il y avait encore de la condensation à l'intérieur de mon instrument après l'avoir laissé debout toute la nuit.

Thanks, join. That cabling worked fine.

What cable do you recommend for connecting the Link directly to the computer or iPad? The connector on the back is opposite of what I would normally find.

Looks like we need A-A cables like these.

    • RE: midi out huge delay/ latency with new sync unit

I just received the Sylphyo and Link yesterday. This morning I tested playing an iPad via MIDI. I used an iConnectMIDI MIO with its MIDI DIN plugs plugged into the back of the Link and the other end plugged into the iPad.

I made no settings change to how the Sylphyo and Link came from Aodyo.

I tested several synths I have installed and all performed with no noticeable lag.
