More Internal Sounds needed here!

Soon...soon...soon!
Well it seems you wont even supply any internal sounds anymore.
In one of the previous beta releases you had a pretty decent "Duduk" sound, which was really cool for outside!
All history now!
Hey developers, Im a street musucian, who needs good internal sounds!
No Anima Phi or other Soundsourses I can carry around.
People stop by and ask me about the instrument.
Good publicity for you guys.
Some even want to buy it.
What do you want me to tell them?
All history?
Whats going to happen...? Soon.... -
@eckolo Agree.
-
@yxcv thanx
-
Well, they talked about a Sylphyo update and bug fixes and made the Anyma Phi. Then they talked about a Sylphyo update and bugfixes and started with Anyma Omega. I'm starting to realize that the company is stretched and the niche we're in with the Sylphyo is pretty narrow ...
What should we do?
I know – we drop the Sylphyo and start playing Otomatone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiT37yZzq_M -
Yes, that is what I said several times. Tomorrow it´s 20 months since the last Update. They really don´t care.
-
@Friedus I‘m really disappointed about the communication of Aodyo. If they don‘t have any ideas for a further development of the sylphyo, they should be honest and talk about the upcoming end of the Sylphyo or sell their patents to Yamaha or Roland or somebody else. I don‘t want that Sylphyo dies. It is a great instrument and could have a great future.
Aodyo: Please give your customers hope, no dope!
-
Agreed. I am also waiting for an update. Sylphyo is a wonderful instrument! It has a lot of possibilities. I love bagpipes! I really want something more drone-like. Maybe a sitar? I really do not want the instrument to fall into oblivion. Maybe organize a kickstarter company to improve the Sylphyo? I would love to invest in Sylphyo II project.

@Aqualuq
Jip, good idea(s) -
As you probably all noticed we were and still are currently quite busy on another front (Anyma).
I can confirm you that next update for the Sylphyo will be focussed on providing new sounds. I won't provide any release date before we think this would be ready.
As already stated, the Sylphyo is probably the electronic wind instrument that got the most numerous FREE firmware upgrade (21 upgrades between 2016 and 2021).
Other topics like new control features, software editor/backup tools or similar requires a complete firmware redesign which has already been started but with nothing we can release yet (even for beta testing). This one is a long term project with no timeline we can share for now. We already have a few ideas for further development, but nothing that could be achieved without getting beyond this milestone first.
A few other things somehow disturb our initial plans in the past 2 years (something to do with a strange pandemic situation, main Sylphyo component unavailable due to its use for breathing apparatus and then electronic component shortage). But we manage to get through all these and could find solutions to produce more Sylphyo units thanks to our local partners.
All this doesn't prevent any of you to keep on playing your Sylphyo. Please share the music you are making with it as @Peter-Ostry did recently and spread the word about the Sylphyo which would be the best support you could provide to us.
-
@Laurent_AODYO Thanks for your appearance here, although not very satisfying to Sylphyo players.
As one is able to trigger an infinite number of sounds using the midi capabilities of the instrument coupled with external software, I would rather you 'bite the bullet' and concentrate on developing the new and enhanced firmware upgrade to enable new control features, software editor/backup tools etc.
To make an analogy, (forgive me) ... it is like producing the same model old car without update, but making it available in 5 new colours every couple of years....
I have demonstrated the Sylphyo to a number of interested people, who have been impressed, but the shortcomings of the instrument have been noticed....
Thanks again for all the hard work at Aodyo, please do not leave us behind. -
@Laurent_AODYO I had not read your answer when posting precedently on the subject of software to help configure the Sylphyo.
I understand all your problems and your choices. Besides, I do not ask you for new sounds which anyway will not compete with Respiro, Lyrihorn ...
But understand impatience pending tools for Sylphyo who would help us.
And speaking of music, I take advantage of it because in this song there is a lot of Sylphyo and Respiro: https://didg.bandcamp.com/track/hommage -
@reidid789 nice track.
I am always surprised and happy to ear the various and creative kind of music made using the Sylphyo -
@reidid789 Wow, great music. Thanks
-
I use the midi capabilities of the instrument coupled with external software (like samplemodelling) when I am at home. but I want the most really good internal sound because I just want to take the Sylphyo with me and plug in an amp. Not to carry other things like Laptops or Computer etc.
-
@Friedus My personal belief is that "really good internal sound" needs a really good (i.e. reasonably current) CPU, fast memory, and all the things that support that (power, bus architecture, etc.) After being "pretty" happy with the results from the VL70-m for almost 2 years, I jumped into the Audio Modelling / SWAM sound engine a few months ago and left the VL70 gathering dust. That's for the real-world emulation camp.
For the virtual, more "out there" sounds, there's the Lyrihorn, Respiro, EVI-NER type plugins, which may require somewhat less "oomph", but still (I'm guessing) far more than the CPU power of the Sylphyo.
Cramming a SWAM engine inside the Sylphyo would be ideal, except that it is likely impossible (unless we're talking NASA-sized budgets).
That said, I think the Sylphyo internal sounds are great for a backup, and I even recorded a production track (and sometimes play live) with the SynthBrass sound. I always maintain a low-tech signal path from the Link audio out to my output system that requires no laptop support to access - easy switch-over in case of a Wintel crash.
-
Just loud thinking ...
what if the Sylphyo had no internal sounds at all? Less powerful CPU, two batteries, an USB cable, the wireless connection to the Link. Bidirectional of course, to save and load settings. Only the Link would have the synth.
No more double-synth control. Cheaper Sylphyo, cheaper Link (because more people would buy it), smaller program, less maintenance by the developer.
The Link/Synth could run on batteries (can it?) for street musicians. Stage performers have power supply anyway. Studio people would use just the radio MIDI and their own synths.
... as I said above, just loud thinking.

(I am a little scared at the moment because of my bad experience with Eigenharp. This project with the best possible hardware died because of software troubles, updates, lost programmers etc. I don't want to see the Sylphyo on a similar path. Therefore I rather suggest to keep updates small and pragmatic and try to shrink and streamline the whole system, technically.) -

Friedus, But indeed I use an internal sound to work on the Sylphyo in the helmet when I am on the go. In this case I do not need a great audio quality and a sound is enough for me.
As Peter Ostry says we could delete all sounds from the Sylphyo because it is now enough to connect it to your smartphone and use free breathing in displacement. -
Personally, I only use the internal sound when I'm working music while travelling, so I completely agree with this:

All I can do is whishing you a lot of courage ! Let's hope that the other projects of Aodyo help you to stabilise your finances and come back to the Sylphyo all the more powerfully and soon !
My part in the diffusion of the Sylphyo: ODDLEAF, my new progressive rock band with flute, Sylphyo (Respiro and Minimoog sound)
For me, I would mostly need a backup tool ! It terrifies me to start a 2023 concerts season without being able to backup.
( ^_^ ) Hearts up Aodyo ! I'm definitely a Sylphyo player in Oddleaf, and the band supports you all the more !
-
@mathiross : Thanks ! A new song from the past !! you are the worthy son of Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and so many more. And with a Sylphyo. Great.

The future ?Impressive !! How this physically possible? However, I'm happy with my flute fingering, and happy with the Sylphyo and all its versatility !
Thanks for your enthusiasm for Progressive rock !

@Peter-Ostry If the Sylphyo had no internal sounds at all, it would essentially be a newer version of the Yamaha WX-5, which is a wonderful instrument.
-
@ark
Well, I can't agree unconditionally. I very rarely use the internal sounds.But: The blow sensor and gyroscope system from the Sylphyo, key buttons from the Eigenharp, rocker switch, mouthpiece and octave buttons from the WX, and new software with an editor – that would be a wonderful instrument :-)
Don't you miss the rocker switch on the Sylphyo?
Don't you find the WX octave keys better? -
@Peter-Ostry said in More Internal Sounds needed here!:
Don't you miss the rocker switch on the Sylphyo?
Hi Peter, what do yo mean by rocker switch?
-
@mathiross
I mean this thing on the WX controllers:Maybe it is just called Rocker because it is not a switch.
I miss it on the Sylphyo, but I miss mechanical elements anyway. I'm not fond of touch plates. I love the Sylphyo for it's breath sensibility and the transformation to MIDI. Everything else is improvable.
-
@Peter-Ostry In the WX5 manual, Yamaha refer to it as "Pitch Bend Wheel" rather that "Rocker". They say, "Thumb-controlled pitch-bend wheel allows convenient pitch bend control when either the reed (saxophone type) or recorder type mouthpiece is used.". Though from the way that you describe it as "Rocker", I guess that the action is more like a spring-loaded, bi-directional rocker switch?
-
@Gromit
Yes, it is spring-loaded and bi-directional. I don't remember exactly, but I think there is a small potentiometer underneath, but quite precise. And yes it is mostly used for pitchbend.On the Sylphyo I would use it for Pitchbend and ModWheel because the rear touch surface is almost unusable for me, practically out of reach, and I never know where my finger is until I hear it.
-

Thanks for your answer Peter. Yes, I understand what you mean with this rear touch surface. Something mechanical would be indeed nice ! Never tested other e-wind instrument. This WX scares me with all the keys... I started the sylphyo with recorder fingering and I finally learnt classical flute fingering thanks of the sylphyo before finally start the flute itself !! Thanks Aodyo for that !

I found some news about a new, physically modelled, Trumpet sound for the Sylphyo (and Anyma) in the updates about the Anyma Omega on Indiegogo. Posted on April 18th. "Meanwhile, we would like to share with you a demo of our new Trumpet oscillator, designed from our Brass physical model, that will soon be available on both Sylphyo and Anyma:".
https://soundcloud.com/aodyo/trumpet-sectionSadly, the same update said that the Anyma Omega would be delayed by 3 months as Aodyo can no longer get the screen part and have to use an alternative part which means modifying the electronic and mechanical design of the Omega.
-
@Gromit Thanks for the news ! Aodyo really know how to communicate...
